Crochet Subscription Box Review: July 2019
I opened my mail box like a brave adventurer tears open the recently unearthed pirate’s chest. Gleaming teal in the darkness of that miniature mailbox cavern, my crochet subscription box awaited me. Eagerly, I sprinted home - just kidding. We have a super long driveway, so I hopped in my van and finished driving back to the house - I felt like sprinting, though!
After unloading my passel of kids, providing them with a snack, tucking them in for naps, getting them one last drink of water, tucking them in, changing a diaper, tucking them in… you get the point. Every minute felt like an age as my teal treasure box waited on the kitchen table. Even though my kids seemed oblivious, I swear it was whispering for me to open it immediately!
Finally, a moment of silence. I sliced the tape holding my new treasure captive. Lifting the lid, the contents lay shrouded in dusty pink tissue. A note on top thanked me - I should be thanking them! Snuggled softly in the wrapping I found my treasure!

I received the Leither Co. July subscription box. While I received the box in exchange for a review, please know, I have purchased from this company in the past. In fact, their subscription box was on my wish list for my birthday this year! I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to receive one several months BEFORE my birthday!!!
Now, on to the box contents and what I thought of them! I received the Dragonfly box, which is now a crochet kit that you can purchase here.
The Yarn.
I received one hank of worsted weight, hand dyed yarn in the colorway Dragonfly. The yarn is a superwash merino in a lovely green, teal, and blue variegation. This yarn is high quality, soft to work with, and completely unique! Merino yarn creates a breathable material - perfect for hats, scarves, and garments. Of course, you can’t go wrong making home décor with such beautiful yarn - letting all the brilliant colors show off!
The yarn was spun well, it did not split or pull as I worked with it. I needed to wind the yarn into a cake first, so I used my handy yarn winder and swift that I had purchased on Amazon. You can wind the yarn by hand, but I much prefer using my yarn tools!
2. The Hook.
In my subscription box, I received an 8 mm hook. It features an aluminum hook head and a hand-turned wooden body. I love the farmhouse-chic vibe of the natural wood hook I received! I’m the sort of crocheter who cannot have too many hooks! I love having beautiful tools to work with - in fact, I’ve purchased wooden hooks from Leither Co. before and have always been more than pleased with the product I received! These wooden hooks are definitely of the highest quality.
I used the natural wood hook that came with my kit to work up the yarn I received. The hook was comfortable to hold - which is very important, since I am prone to hand cramps! The hook glided smoothly through the yarn, not catching, pulling, or snagging the yarn in any way. The Leither Co. hooks are definitely masterfully crafted!
The Dragonfly box comes with the option of a natural wooden hook - like the one I received, or a Confetti Hook. The Confetti Hooks feature fun, dyed woods in the handles. Each one is unique and beautiful - just like the yarn it comes with!
3. The Patterns.
My package included two patterns that normally sell for $4.00 on Leither Co.’s Etsy shop. I received one hat pattern as well as a home décor pattern for a table runner. I decided to make the Dragonfly Beanie pattern included with my package, just to give the products a test run!
The patterns are beautifully and colorfully printed. They are clearly written, the instructions are easy to follow. I believe both these patterns are very beginner friendly. I also found the pattern to be easily customizable - I decided to add a bun beanie top to the Dragonfly Beanie that I made!
4. The Fun Extras.
The Dragonfly box also included an adorable dragonfly stitch marker! If you’ve been around my blog much at all, you KNOW I love me some stitch markers! I can never have enough of them - mostly because I’m terrible about losing them. Whether or not a pattern calls for stitch markers, I always have one assigned to each project, if only to clip into the last stitch to keep it from unravelling while it waits for me to work on it again. With three children and two dogs running around here, I’ve often come back to a half-frogged project. I now make sure to save them with a stitch marker! The one I received with the subscription box functions smoothly, has no snags to pull the yarn, AND is just a beautiful little enamel dragonfly - it matches my project!
The box also included a sample of Soak. I’ve not used this product before, but I plan to save it to block a shawl pattern I’m working on. Quite a few crocheters and knitters have mentioned to me how much they love the Soak for blocking their projects, and I look forward to trying out this new product. The subscription box doesn’t always contain Soak, but it was a fun extra to receive in the Dragonfly kit.
5. Final Thoughts.
Everything about this box was a treat! From the bright packaging that greeted me at the mailbox, to the delicate wrapping that promised a wonderful treasure, to the stunning contents - each one unique and beautiful! If you have been looking for a crochet subscription box, but have been on the fence - I highly recommend this one! If you purchased each of the contents separately, you would easily spend more than double the cost of the box - which also makes it an AMAZINGLY good deal - and you KNOW I love a good deal (check out my top Amazon deals, if you’ve got a minute!).
