Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I seek to breathe beauty into the ordinary, by creating whimsical designs - and parenting with a smile. Hope you have a nice stay!
“I’ve lost my crojo.” She typed sadly.
“I can’t find a pattern I really want to make. Any suggestions?” he asked.
“How do you stay motivated to finish a project?” she wondered.
As I scroll through the crochet Facebook groups or Instagram hashtags, I lose track of how often I see these statements typed out with a nice picture of a crocheted item “for attention.” I wondered, what can I do to help these makers? I know that feeling of lost “crojo” all too well, so I wanted to find a solution for that aimless feeling of wanting to make, but not knowing what to make.
While many use the term “crojo” to refer to their crochet mojo, but I like to think of the term specifically as our “crochet joy.” You know, the thing about crocheting that draws us back over and over again. That feeling that inspires us to buy possibly more yarn than we can use, to collect patterns, and to claim, “Oh, I could make that” when we see cute things in retail stores. But sometimes, we lose sight of our crochet joy and feel stagnant in our craft rooms, having forgotten what exactly will bring us joy.
The Joyful Maker: A Crocheter’s Companion is a crochet project notebook that guides you to the perfect project from selecting your yarn to locating the patterns that inspire you. The book begins with a brief discussion of “crojo” and how to find it. You will then be guided through a series of questions to help you recognize the exact feelings, products, and sensations that bring you the most satisfaction when you are creating. You will be prompted to list your absolute favorite things (i.e. yarn, hook, patterns, etc.) that you can refer to when you just don’t know what to make - you know, something about revisiting our favorites jumpstarts our creativity again!
After completing the section about finding what brings you joy, you are provided with a brief list of independent crochet pattern designers sorted by the niche. For instance, if you realize that making baby blankets just brings a glow to your life, I’ve listed a few baby blanket designers for you to follow and be inspired by. Do you prefer to make magical amigurumi? I’ve got you covered. Are you a beginner looking for designers at your level? I’ve included something for you, too!
When you purchase The Joyful Maker: A Crocheter’s Companion in hardcover format, you will receive our full Project Planner’s Package. You will receive a beautifully packaged product with a handwritten note to wish you all joy as you continue your maker journey. This package is listed for pre-order. Pre-orders will remain open until June 11 (one week), after which I will order the books from my supplier and send them on to you. The entire process may take up to four weeks, but hopefully we will be able to process everything quicker.
Of course, optionally, you can purchase the printable PDF copy of The Joyful Maker. The PDF is formatted for standard 8.5” x 11” paper and can be printed from your home computer. The PDF does not include all the pages in the hardcover edition, but only includes one set of each page.
