Turtle Applique: Free Pattern and Tutorial
I remember the first time I gazed up through the waters of the Tennessee Aquarium in amazement as the largest turtle I had ever seen glided through the waters - his path as smooth and soaring as a robin riding the spring breeze! Later, we were taken to a room full of shallow tanks. We petted stingrays and little turtles. The wonder of it all overwhelmed me. What a big world we live in!
Two years ago, I started a blanket for my son’s birthday, but with no particular image in mind of what I wanted it to look like, it quickly made it to my drawer of unfinished projects. As his third birthday approached, a sudden bolt of inspiration struck me. I started making little cotton turtles for it! I made several, each one a little different that the previous. My son cuddled next to me, watching me work.
“No, momma. His head is weird.” Ok, let’s try a different way.
“Momma, his tail should be wiggly.” Ok, then let’s make it wiggle!
I’m so excited to share this little guy with you - especially since my own little boy helped me design it!
