Orchid Shawl: A Free Crochet Pattern
The Orchid Shawl is inspired by the unique shape of those exotic blossoms that enchant our eyes and delight our senses. The gently drooping flowers, the bold leaves, the stretching areal roots: each aspect of the orchid is reflected in this uniquely beautiful, yet simple, crochet shawl pattern.
The Orchid Shawl is the first in the Spring Shawl Series. Make sure you are subscribed to my email list to get notified when each shawl pattern is available! These patterns will vary in shape, difficulty, and technique, but each one will be inspired by some of my favorite flowers. Don’t miss out on a single pattern by subscribing to my email list. I will also be publishing a video tutorial for each of these shawls, so head over to my new YouTube channel so you don’t miss them!

The Yarn
My favorite aspect of this shawl design? You can use any yarn you want!! You can make it with fingering weight yarn or worsted weight yarn or anything in between! I used my Luxe Lollies from Hobby Lobby, which is, sadly, a discontinued yarn. Luxe Lollies is a lot like Red Heart Unforgettable, but I think this spring shawl would also be stunning in cotton for a spring or summer accessory. Or even a Lion Brand Mandala would look lovely with these stitches! Check out We Crochet for my favorite yarns!
The Hook
As usual, I’m using my favorite hooks from Furls. For this project I used my 4 mm hook in the Cookies and Cream Swirl. I love these ergonomic hooks for how comfortable they are and how easy they are to work with. If you are looking to invest in quality ergonomic hooks that are also absolutely beautiful, check out furls!
Of course, you can find lots of different ergonomic hooks on the market. Another popular option are The Hook Nook ergonomic set you can purchase through We Crochet. These hooks have a similar shape to the furls hooks, but they are all made out of resin, so they are a little more affordable. Check them out below!
